Sandeep Mohan's second film, Hola Venky, was an experimental comedy that had a limited theatrical release in San Francisco and San Jose in 2013. This microbudget indie film, shot guerilla-style across the U.S. and India, had a production crew of just three people—the director, a cameraperson, and a sound recordist. With a modest budget of just over ₹10 lakhs (less than $20,000), Hola Venky was an example of creative ingenuity in filmmaking. The film starred Roger Narayan, who later gained fame in films like U-Turn, and Mexican actress Sonia Balcazar. Rather than following traditional distribution routes, Sandeep employed an innovative model he called "The Great Indian Travelling Cinema." Armed with a mini projector, he personally screened the film in over 90 alternative spaces across India, Singapore, and the U.S., going beyond the usual cinema halls. This unconventional approach helped Hola Venky develop a mini-cult following, particularly among fans of indie and microbudget films. The film’s spirit of breaking free from traditional filmmaking and distribution norms has resonated with audiences who appreciate the authenticity and boldness of such projects.
